The 91-year-old Urdu litterateur has a chequered history. Kashmiri Lal Zakir has been honoured as Fakhr-e-Haryana by the Haryana Government. He has won acclaim as a leading
urdu writer not only in India and Pakistan but also in the entire Urdu world. Zakir started his literary career in early forties in Jammu and published in prestigious literary journals like Humayun and Adabi Duniya from Lahore. Though originally from Jammu, he has served Haryana in his capacity as Secretary of Haryana Urdu Akademi since 1987. Zakir has authored 29 novles and many books of poetry.
