Nitish lays stone of agriculture college in Kishanganj

ARRABARI (KISHANGANJ): Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said the proposed agriculture college at Arrabari in Kishanganj district would be a landmark in changing the social and educational profile of the district, which has already received recognition by joining the club of tea and pineapple producing districts across the country.

The CM, who laid the foundation stone of the agriculture college, being constructed at a cost of Rs 992 crore on the 365 acre plot at Arrabari, some 25 km from Kishanganj on Kishanganj-Thakurganj road, said the construction of the college would be completed within the stipulated timeframe of 24 months. "The agriculture college will be quite unique in many respects besides imparting necessary feedback to the pineapple growers which is confined to this district alone in Bihar," the CM said.

Though continued drizzle threatened to play spoilsport for the mega foundation stone laying ceremony and delayed due to late arrival of the chopper carrying the CM and his cabinet colleagues, the CM was quite buoyant, making such a prestigious gift to Kishanganj which has often been stigmatized for the high rate of illiteracy.

Among those who shared the dais with CM were agriculture minister Narendra Singh, energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav and building construction minister Damodar Raut. Also present on the occasion were principal secretary to the CM, Anjani Kumar Singh, agriculture secretary Vivek Kumar Singh and Sabour Agriculture University vice chancellor Mewalal Chowdhary. Kishanganj Congress MLA Dr Javed, BJP MLC Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, MLC Manzar Alam and JD (U) MLAs Lesie Singh and Sarfaraz Alam.

The CM, during his 10-minute speech, said the spread of education besides bringing around the turnaround in the lifestyle of the people, would also help them overcome petty misconceptions and dispel clouds of ignorance. He said the educational curriculum would begin soon. The students of the agriculture college would get a stipend of Rs 2,000 per month and Rs 6,000 for books, the CM announced.
