JEDDAH —  Nashtar Amrohvi, or Syed Sayyedain Shuja Naqvi, hails from Darbar Shah Vilayat, Amroha.

Presently working with the electrical department, Amrohvi received his education in his hometown.

Part of the Annual Mushaira 2014’s contingent, Amrohvi was also impressed with the organizational skills of the Indian Consulate.

“I am a disciple of Allama Mahmood Hasan Qaiser Amrohvi. In the humor and satire famous poets Dilawar Figar and Allama Shahbaz Amrohvi are my ideal. In this field Akbar Allahabadi was a powerful voice and trendsetter of his times but our era is totally different,” said Amrohvi.

Amrohvi is of the view that humor and satire in poetry are different in Urdu and Hindi. In Urdu poetry, delicate metaphors, light symbols and figures of speech do the desired work. Urdu poetry lovers this format of poetry, according to the poet. It can also not be compared with the laughter programs.

“In Urdu humor and satire are totally different from Laughter Challenge programs,” he said.

Keeping Urdu language alive is a challenge in India, but Amrohvi is confident that Urdu lovers will work toward the development of the language.

Urdu’s future is very bright. Urdu is developing in almost all the field. The government should help Urdu language. It’s our duty to teach our children their mother tongue. Innumerable nations and people had done it to keep their language alive. There should be no compromise in this regard. I am teaching Urdu to 25 children my home. Even Hindu children are among the students,” he said.

Amrohvi already has a collection of poetry titled “Post Mortem” to his credit, and another poetry collection of the poet dubbed “Teer o Nashtar” will be published soon.

A few couplets from Nashtar Amrohvi’s poetry:

Dosto main Romeo hoon aur na main Farhad hoon
Meer o Gahalib bhi nahin hoon aur na main Azad hoon
Hai faqat itni si meri shayeri ki dastaan
Char ka shagird hoon chalees ka ustad hoon

Aurton per ghalat ilzam hai tohmat hai yeh
Besabab bepardagi per Sheikh Ji ghusse men hain
Is qadar make up hai chehre per ki chehra chhup gaya
Berida hote hue bhi aurten parde men hain
