Poems in honour of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan
Flock of Meanings
Flock of meanings, flew high in the sky its birds,
Landed in a place where life was plentiful (Zayed).*
And when nights ask about the lustre of his light,
Shines on them with the face of the reformer and guide.
Generosity adores his hands, compliant to his counsel,
Gives, and after giving, to giving returns.
Ten rivers flow with benevolence renowned,
And a home, where run ten rivers of goodness great.
His people are his family, and among Arabs, he has no equal,
Guardian of honour, the glory of the country, its leader.
Never felt poverty, his people, always rewarding them,
And how often nations gasped, their energy failing.
How often wished the enemy to be captured,
By him, and win, from his mercy, reward.
Is he a man, or a bountiful sea in human image?
Oh king, the king of compassion limitless.
The sun, the moon and the stars are forgiven,
For their futile wish to match his rank.
On your day, all people are joyous,
And all to Zayed on this day send greetings.
* In Arabic, Zayed means plentiful.
