Tajal Bewas

Bewas was born in Pir Hayat Shah village, Khairpur district. His received his education from local schools and the Gambat High School before completing a Master of Arts degree in Economics as an external candidate with Sindh University. After complementing his education, he taught English in his home town.
Bewas also served as a government official before his retirement, and was registrar for several companies. He was also a secretary for the Pakistani government and registrar of companies for the government of Sindh province.

Tajal Bewas  whose pen name was "Taj Mohammed Samoo" (born 1938 –  died 13 December 2008), was a Sindhi - and Urdu -language poet, novelist, short-story writer, teacher and government official in Pakistan.

His poem, "Sindh Munhji Aman Soonh Tuhinji Mathan Chha Likhi Chha Likhan" is considered "the national anthem of Sindhis in India", according to The Regional Times, which reported after his death: "He was known across Pakistan and India and many singers of both countries sung his poetry for radio and television" Bewas was the author of 44 books, 34 of them published, including Andaz-e-Bayan Aur, a collection of Urdu poetry. "He tried to experiment in all native and modern forms of poetry" and was called a Sindhi classical form "Bait", The News International of Karachi reported upon his death.

He was a resident of Karachi when he died at 70. A week before his death, he had a stroke and was sent to at Liaquat National Hospital, where he died. Bewas had arranged musical programs at Chowkundi graveyard, a historical cemetery, and was buried there, as he had wanted.

KARACHI - The legendary Sindh bucolic Sufi poet Tajal Bewas died at the age of 70 years at a private hospital here on Saturday.

He left one widow, 4 sons and 7 daughters. He suffered a fatal stroke and was in coma for the last one week.

Taj Muhammad Samo was born in 1938 in Sobdehero district Khairpur Mirs. He got early education from his native place and done matriculation from Gambat High School and done MA in Economics as external candidate from Sindh University.

After complementing his education joined the profession of teaching and taught English in his native town.

He passed competitive exams and was posted as investigation office in Export Promotion Bureau and later in same department as a research officer and later joined Corporate Law Authority in grade 20 and retired in 1998. He wrote more than 34 poetry books and Sindhi folk singers sang his songs on radio and TV over the years. His famous poetry book is Tajal Bewas Jo Risalo.

His funeral prayer was offered at a local mosque in which notable Sindh poets including Shamsherul Hyderi, Akash Ansari, Inayat Baloch and large numbers of notables of city participated. He was buried in graveyard Chowkandi off national high Karachi.

CM condoles demise

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaiim Ali Shah has expressed his grief and sorrow over the sad demise of famous poet of Sindhi and Urdu, and critic, Taj Mohammed Sammo alias Tajal Bewus.

He paid tributes to him on his literary, academic and social services. Offering condolences to bereaved family the Chief Minister prayed to Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant patience to family to bear the loss. Recently Bewus had published a book containing poetic tributes to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri also condoled the demise of poet Tajal Bewus and described his death an irreparable loss to Sindhi poetry and literature.

She paid him rich tributes in relation to his contribution to Sindhi literature and poetry and said although he was physically not present among us but he will remain alive in the hearts of people of Sindh through his poetry.

Many condoles death of Sindhi poet

Sindh Minister for Information, Ms. Shazia Marri has expressed profound grief on demise of renowned Sindh poet Tajal Bewas and termed it a great loss to Sindhi literature.

In a condolence message on Saturday, she said Tajal, due to his popular poetry, lived in the hearts of people of Sindh. Shazia Marri prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in peace.
