Verma Malik was a Bollywood lyricist. He was an active freedom fight when in was in reign of British, he wrote many patriotic songs and chose India after partition. He wrote Bhajan and often recites them before penning lyrics for films.
Hansraj Behl helped him in the beginning of his career. His first big break was from Yadgar in year 1970 film by Manoj Kumar. He noticed by the song 'Ek Tara Bole'
 
 Noted lyricist Verma Malik passed away peacefully on Sunday 15 March 2009  evening at his residence in Juhu. He was 84. Malik, who had written the lyrics for many popular songs in the 1970s and the 1980s, was born on April 13, 1925 in Ferozepur, Pakistan. Ek taara bole from Yaadagar (1970), Kaan mein jhumka chaal mein thumka from Saawan Bhadon (1970), Hai hai yeh majboori from Roti Kapda aur Makaan (1974), Do bechaare from Victoria No. 203 (1972), Tere sang pyaar mein from Nagin (1976) are some of the songs he has written that went on to be immensely popular.
 
Malik’s first tryst with lyrics was when he began penning bhajans, often also singing them. An active freedom fighter in the days when India was ruled by the British, he wrote several patriotic songs. After the partition, Malik left Pakistan and moved to India. With a little help from friend Hansraj Behl, who was a music director, Malik began writing songs for Punjabi films. He got his first break when he wrote Ek tara bole for Yaadgar in 1970 when noted actor and director Manoj Kumar gave him the opportunity. The song was a great hit and the industry noticed him.
 
Never looking back since 1970,  Malik went ahead to create some of the most memorable songs that fans hum even today. Sad to hear about Malik’s death, friend and music director Pyarelal of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo, says, “I’m sorry to hear about this. He was a very simple man. Varmaji ki khasiyat yeh thi, ki he could blend shayari and folk songs very well. We have worked together in a few films and he came across as a calm person, happy and proud of the work he was doing.”
