| Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid set up Emirates Diplomatic Academy |  | | UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued Cabinet Decision no. (29) for 2014 establishing the Emirates Diplomatic Academy as an autonomous federal entity that have the legal capacity to exercise its work and achieve its objectives.
According to article (3) of the Decision, published in the recent issue of the official gazette, the head office of the academy will be in Abu Dhabi while the academy may set up branches or offices inside the UAE under a decision by its board of trustees.
Article (4) stipulates that the academy aims at supporting the foreign policy of the UAE in the field of diplomacy and international relations, building a knowledge base and highlighting the role of the UAE in international and diplomatic relations. It also aims at training and raising the efficiency of the members of consular and diplomatic corps in terms of international and diplomatic relations.
In addition, the academy will provide technical and consultative support for the foreign ministry while building partnerships and enhancing co-operation and co-ordination with major training centers and universities, concluding co-operation agreements and exchanging expertise with these bodies.
The academy will be managed by a board of trustees headed by the minister of foreign affairs and no more than six members. Board membership is subject for 3 years renewal. The Academy will have a director general to be appointed by the Chairman’s decision.
Articles (18) and (19) of the decision stipulate that the chairman of the board of trustees will issue the necessary regulations and decisions for implementing the provisions of this decision and that all provisions contradictory with this decision is considered null.
The decision is published in the official gazette and will take effect from the day following its publication.
