One more primary health centre (PHC) in each block:

CM Nitish Kumar

PATNA: Calling the 'Mukhyamantri Balika Cycle Yojna' his most satisfying achievement, CM Nitish Kumar on Monday reiterated that his government was allocating maximum funds (23% of the state budget) to education sector and works on 1,000 new higher secondary schools were in progress.

Listing his government's achievements in the education sector while presenting the Report Card, 2013, the CM said, "We have provided land and a two-storey building for commencement of classes at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Kishanganj. As per my information, 60 students have been enrolled in the first batch for BEd course and classes would start soon. In fact, MBA, biotechnology and law courses were also in the offing."

The CM also announced opening of one more primary health centre (PHC) in each block that would cater to the maternal and child health. "At least 534 PHCs would be started within the next three months to offer 24x7 services," he said adding that CT scan facility at all district hospitals and MRI machines at medical colleges would also be provided within six months.

The much talked about telemedicine facility would be launched at PMCH, IGIMS, 22 district hospitals and 82 PHCs from November 27. "This would be the first phase as the service would be started at altogether 200 PHCs, 36 district hospitals and all medical colleges in the current fiscal year," said the CM, adding that through this facility patients would be able to avail experts' advice even at block level.

The CM repeatedly said his government had made efforts to get MCI approval for medical colleges at Bettiah and Pawapuri. "Seats were also increased at most of the medical colleges in the state," he said.

Interacting with mediapersons after the presentation of the report card, Kumar, in response to a query, said he had no personal achievements but 'Balika Cycle Yojna' gave him much satisfaction. "Girls going to schools in large numbers is a silent change which would transform the society," he said adding that he was ready to face any challenge in the coming years as he had no other work but the people's welfare.
