JEDDAH — “Urdu Mushairahs (poetic gatherings) have enriched Indian culture and even non-Urdu speaking people love them. Mushairas have paved a nice way to express popular sentiments, to highlight problems of the people and to bring different cultures together. Consulate General of India - Jeddah is extending its support to keep this precious and important literary tradition alive in Saudi Arabia. Our Consul General BS Mubarak’s help and support made us able to cope with all challenges and we were able to organize this year’s Annual Mushairah 2014 with our traditional zeal. We are happy that our team had full support of the guest poets and audience in this regard. Without their support one cannot think about a successful literary gathering,” said Dr. Irshad Ahmad, Indian consul press, information and culture at the Consulate General of India.

Ahmad highlighted the importance of Mushairah in our society and its role in the life of Indian expatriate community living in Saudi Arabia. The press counsel said they like to give chance to every poet to be able to participate in the Mushaira. This requires a lot of work as genuine Urdu poets are looked for in India.

“The preparations of the Mushaira at least take five months. We are thankful for the support of the Saudi Government, the Consulate General of India and Foreign Office for their best efforts in this regard. Without their help this dream of Annual Mushaira cannot come true,” he said. The cultural program held here has become a high anticipated event, which also witnesses the attendance of women.

“It’s a matter of great pride and satisfaction for the Consulate General of India and its team for organizing this important literary event,” said Ahmad, adding that through these poetic gatherings their aim to spread the message of love and peace.
