--: Biography of Khursheed Kamal Aziz :--

 Khursheed Kamal Aziz

Khursheed Kamal Aziz was Son of Barrister Abdul Aziz, a well-known historian in his own right who added to his fame by initiating pioneering work on Heer Waris Shah, K.K. Aziz was born in the village of Ballamabad near Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) on December 11, 1927.

Professor K. K. Aziz was a Pakistani historian specialising in the late Raj period and the Freedom Movement. He published over 30 books on the modern history of Muslims of the Indian sub-continent. He also wrote a moving biography of his father Shaikh Abdul Aziz (1884-1970) in Urdu.

K.K. Aziz was for five years special policy advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan (1974-77), with overlapping responsibilities as Chairman of the country's National Commission on Historical & Cultural Research. His tenure came to an abrupt end when Prime Minister Bhutto was deposed. Unfortunately he was badly treated by the new forces in power.

Professor Aziz's scholarship has encompassed biographical writing (Syed Ameer Ali, Rahmat Ali), political history (for example his magnum opus, the four volume 'A History of the Idea of Pakistan'), historiography (The Murder of History: A critique of History Textbooks used in Pakistan), and numerous compilations, including the speeches letters of Aga Muhammad Sultan II.

He died in the city he loved, Lahore, tended by his devoted wife Zarina who was a continuous source of support through out his long and distinguished career.
