Nawab Hashmi was born on July 2, 1942 in village Pakripur, post Inayatpur, district Sultanpur. Uttar Pradesh. He got initial education in his village where Urdu teaching was not available. However, his father taught him Urdu at home. He passed BA from Allahabad University, was appointed as sub inspector of police in 1964 and retired as inspector in 2000. Penning poetry since 1980.
