Nitish Kumar stand on FDI

PATNA: CM Nitish Kumar reiterated his stand on FDI saying states cannot be compelled to allow 51 percent FDI in retail market. "There is no logic in such a policy. The Centre has taken a decision and now the Centre should reconsider and withdraw it. The FDI policy will not benefit any section," he said on his return from Seva Yatra in Arwal district on Wednesday.

The CM said that the retail shops and vendors who invest a few hundreds and earn a little profit will be hit hard and they will not get any job. The Centre's plea that FDI will bring jobs is not very convincing, he added. "The decision has been taken ignoring the ground realities and our party is opposed to this move," he said and added that the Congress has support of only two of its allies and other partners are against it.

On his statement with regard to small districts, the CM said that he told the people about its benefits. He said that a ministerial committee exists for the creation of districts, subdivisions and blocks. Arwal is a small district having five blocks and 63 panchayats, whereas Kurhni block in Muzaffarpur alone has 39 panchayats. There is demand for inclusion of three more blocks in Arwal and the committee will take a decision on this demand, he said.
