Nitish at ground zero for first-hand feel of 'feats'

Bettiah: Chief minister Nitish Kumar inspected the ongoing work on a bridge, interacted with schoolchildren and villagers and called upon the farmers to opt for scientific farming as he sought feedback from them on his governance in the remote Dhanaha block, situated 25km from Bagaha in the riverine area of the Gandak, on the first day of his 'Seva Yatra' on Wednesday.

A large number of villagers thronged the helipad at Dhanaha to welcome the CM. Avoiding formalities of exchanging pleasantries with officials and people's representatives, including Bettiah MP Sanjay Jaiswal and Bagaha MPBaidnath Mahto, the CM straightway started discussions with bureaucrats and technocrats on the progress of the bridge construction work.

His cavalcade later stopped randomly at a government school near Barwa village where the crowd of villagers complained to him about the poor condition of the school's boundary wall. Assuring them that the matter would be looked into, Nitish called a schoolboy from the crowd and asked him about the facilities being provided to schoolchildren by the state government. The boy's reply brought relief to school staff standing nearby. The CM then turned to the villagers and asked them about the salient features of his governance. He looked satisfied.

Next Nitish made a surprise inspection of the Lauriya sugar mill where he also addressed a crowd of farmers. "Avail of the benefits of modern farming technology which increases the yield," he told them and announced the launch of major agriculture-oriented projects in the state soon.

After almost an hour's stay at the sugar mill, Nitish moved to Jogapatti block where he inspected the circle office and gathered information about the implementation of Right to Public Services Act.

Earlier before embarking on the 'yatra', Nitish said in Patna he would utilize the opportunity to acquaint himself with the actual development in the blocks, panchayats and villages and physically verify the quality and pace of work. "I will review the ongoing schemes in the districts and take feedback from local people," he told newsmen before getting into the chopper at the state hangar where a number of ministers, legislators and party workers had lined up to see him off.

"I am keen to review the implementation of the Right to Public Services Act at the grassroots level," Nitish said giving a clear indication that he would study the impact of the Act on checking corruption, the most talked about issue in the country today.

'Janata durbars' and public meetings are also on agenda. In the first phase, the CM is visiting West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Sheikhpura, Arwal, Saharsa, Banka, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Purnia and Siwan districts between November 9 and January 13.

Water resources department minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, chief secretary Navin Kumar and DGP Abhayanand accompanied the CM when he left Patna on the first day of his 'yatra'. The CM is scheduled to spend night at Bettiah. His programmes on Thursday have been kept a secret so as to retain the element of surprise in his inspections.
