Absence Lengthened
Absence lengthened and blamed me my love,
The duration of embrace matches that of absence.
Oh, owner of a heart to you disposed,
Though you yearn, a thousand times greater my yearning.
As you know, departure renews love with its vows,
And I am, since parting, on embers scorching.
East or West, solitary the owner of longing,
A lanner, with wings forever beating.
So long awaited the moment of return,
As if he, by parting, to death is driven.
As though he recalls one with cheeks by flowers covered,
Cascaded down her cheeks, of tears, streams.
This is a test of affection in which lies hardship,
If we remain, as before, lovers.
How precious the days when nights oppose them,
If eternal, I believe them unbearable.
Rises, a pearl's value, with the danger of procurement,
If cheap, they never would adorn necks.
And even springtime, if prolonged,
Would not witness, oh friend, people's yearning.
