* Coincidence *

Coincidence

Enough that you saw her without appointment,
And enough that you savoured from afar her perfume.

Fortune to you, oh friend, lavishly granted,
Your joy, in chance meeting, oh how great.

If not for her love igniting yearning to flames,
Your eye would not meet her gaze.

A cloud filled with love and no thunder,
To you close, yet reaches you not its rain.

Guardian of love, ever in need of succour,
Exposing himself to dangers mortal.

Little attained from love, scant amount,
Though one from branches harvests fruits.

And the prey that nears a hunter is hunted,
And the bolting deer exhausts the hunter, its twisting track.

Hiding from the hunter, drawing distance out,
And evading the hunter, on the alert.

And the beauties, at the spring to drink,
Watered your flowers from springs deep.

Approached you, fanned the flames of yearning but gained not,
Yourself, though challenging your fortitude.

The lightning in the dark of night blazing,
Who said it glowed not from her neck?

And the moon, revealed for us,
Who said it shines not from her presence?

I spent my life wishing intimacy would return,
I turned from fair cheeks and rosy.
