Two fires

Presented to President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin

Sultan Al Nahyan on the 36th anniversary of his Accession Day

Whoever experiences time knows its gravity and its glee,
And knows, before beginning, how to conclude.

In times of abundance, all are equal, but hardships,
Distinguish the virtuous from the corrupt.

Awake through the night and the night has wings darkened,
Contemplating life and its meanings.

I say if Zayed had not brought glory,
To the people, who among them could satisfy?

I say if Zayed had not pledged,
To protect his country, who would protect it?

I say if he had not built glory's structure alone,
Who could, the structure of glory build?

Whoever is against him, all the world opposes,
With hearts none but Zayed can occupy.

And whoever loves him all the world loves,
A love he both gives and accepts.

Extends generosity, infinite,
Constant generosity, overflowing.

He repels attacks and enemies fail to repel him,
Fleeing shamed, their leader lost.

Two fires has he, for those who love him and for those who hate,
One for his guests and for enemies another.

Defends his nation, its fortune his fortune,
To the path of happiness always leads it.

On the day of his accession I congratulate his people and soldiers,
And congratulate a country, through him its wishes realised.
